Shield Event Services was founded in 2018 with a strong foundation of decades of experience to serve and deliver the best customer service and security for our clients.  Our mission is to always go above and beyond our client’s expectations while keeping a fun atmosphere for the fans, patrons and employees.  Our Management team has over 30 years of combined experience in the crowd management field and we are proud to be a Minority Owned Business in the State of Texas.

In addition, Shield Event Services is a proud supporter and contributor of the Houston Children’s Charity; and The Coalition of Police and Sheriff’s Foundation (C.O.P.S.).

Leadership & Experience

Edgar R. Bustamante Jr.:

President and CEO

Edgar Bustamante Jr. is the President and CEO of Shield Event Services. He is responsible for the growth and reputation of the company. Mr. Bustamante’s previous employment was as the Senior Operations Manager for a major event staffing and security company in Houston.  Mr. Bustamante was responsible for handling the overall day to day operations of the company and the management staff which includes Operations, Event Production, Scheduling, and the entire security team.  Mr. Bustamante has been in the Event Security business in Houston for 20 Years, and studied Business at the University of Houston Downtown.  Mr. Bustamante helped coordinate the opening of the BBVA Compass Stadium in Downtown Houston, and has worked closely with the MLS Soccer team the Houston Dynamo since their arrival in Houston in 2006.  Mr. Bustamante has been directly involved in the development of crowd management and security plans for numerous venues over the years. Mr. Bustamante is currently on the advisory committee board for private security with The National Center for Spectator Sport Safety and Security (NCS4).

Gabriel P. Gonzalez:

Vice President

Gabriel Gonzalez is the Vice President of Shield Event Services and will oversee the day to day operations and logistics of Shield Event Services.  Mr. Gonzalez is the Licensed Security Manager for Shield Event Services licensed by the Texas Department of Public Safety.  Mr. Gonzalez was previously the Personnel and Scheduling Director for a major event staffing and security company in Houston.  Mr. Gonzalez graduated from Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi with a degree in Business Management and he has been in the event security business for over 15 years.  Mr. Gonzalez has experience working a wide variety of events such as concerts, various sporting events, MLS Cups, Boxing, Cage Fighting, Concerts, Festivals, Rodeo, Football Games, Conventions, NBA, and Super Bowls.

Alan P. Hicks:

Personnel Manager

Alan Hicks is the Personnel Manager of Shield Event Services and oversees the day to day staffing and scheduling needs in the Houston market. Mr. Hicks is also the Event Manager at Revention Music Center and oversees the security operations for that venue.  Mr. Hicks was previously the Personnel Manager for a major event staffing and security company in Houston. Mr. Hicks has been in the event security business for over 10 years. Mr. Hicks brings a vast amount of experience and wealth of information to Shield Event Services. Mr. Hicks has experience working a wide variety of events such as concerts, various sporting events, MLS Soccer games, Boxing, Cage Fighting, NCAA Final Fours, Marathons, Concerts, Festivals, Rodeos, Football Games, Conventions, NBA, and Super Bowls.

Gene Burkett:

Operations MANAGER – Austin

Gene Burkett is the Event Manager of Shield Event Services in Austin, Texas and oversees the day to day venue operations as the Head of Security at ACL Live. Mr. Burkett has been in the event security business since 2006 and brings a vast amount of experience to Shield Event Services. Mr. Burkett has directed and implemented security operations at a wide range of music festivals, high-profile charity events, corporate and political events including Austin City Limits, FunFunFun, & Bonnaroo Music Festival, Willie Nelson’s 4th of July Picnic, CNN & Fox News Townhalls, MJM and Andy Roddick Charity Events.  Mr. Burkett works to maintain an active professional relationship with city, state, national government security agencies and a wide range of corporate security offices.

Justin Copley:

Personnel Manager

Justin Copley is a Personnel Manager for Shield Event Services and oversees the day to day staffing and scheduling needs for the Houston market.  Mr. Copley is also the Event Manager for 713 Music Hall and manages the security operations for that venue.  Mr. Copley was previously employed by a local school district where he oversaw the safety at a High School campus.  He has been in the event services business for over 10 years.  Mr. Copley has experience working a wide variety of events including concerts, sporting events, and festivals.
